Common Repairs
Here are some of the most common repairs that we provide for your iPad
Broken Screen
Cracked screens on a tablet can be very inconvenient and, at times, dangerous but they’re not always a reason to replace the device right away. Replacing the screen on an Android tablet is far more common than people may realize. From Amazon to Samsung and every major or minor manufacturer in between, all tablets work in pretty much the same way, designed, and built in the same way no matter how much is spent on them by the end user.
The screen on a vast majority of Android tablets is made up of two main parts, the touchscreen, and the LCD panel. Just like that of a phone, the outermost glass on the front of an Android tablet is the touchscreen (sometimes referred to as the digitizer), or, the part of the device that the user controls via touch with either one or more fingers at once or even a stylus pen.
Although it appears to be nothing more than a single sheet of glass, the touchscreen comprises a few layers of pretty remarkable technology. An invisible mesh of sensors is layered between razor-thin sheets of glass with varying thickness and durability. These different layers are the reason why a screen can appear to be shattered yet still respond to input by the user but that does not mean it will last like that for very long. Once there is any kind of crack or deep scratch on the top layer of the touchscreen, there is a huge potential for that screen to stop working correctly later on so having a technician assess the damage quickly is highly recommended.
Another issue a user may face with an Android tablet in regards to the screen would be the LCD panel issues. Sitting within the frame behind the touchscreen, the LCD is what displays the image when the tablet is powered on-just like the screen on a television. When completely assembled (like when you pull the brand-new unit out of the box), the touchscreen and LCD are calibrated perfectly with each other. So perfectly, users don’t usually realize that two components are working in tandem with each other to produce the experience they’re getting.
They are so in sync that once they are not, it is immediately noticeable. Typing on a screen is nearly impossible on a tablet whose touchscreen and LCD are no longer in sync anymore, usually related to software in older Android tablets.
After suffering from a fall of any kind, the touchscreen or the LCD panel (or any combination of the two) can sustain physical damage and not function properly. Visibly damaged LCD panels in an Android tablet can be identified in a few different ways, here are just a few examples:
- Completely black screen
- Completely white screen
- Portions of the screen showing up when powered on
- Black dots or “bleeding” pixels
- Vertical or horizontal lines of any color running through the screen from end to end
- Secondary “ghost” images appear when the screen is powered on
Each of these issues is the cause for the replacement of the LCD panel in an Android tablet or the screen of almost any device for that matter. The disassembly of the screen on any Android tablet should not be attempted by anyone who has not been thoroughly trained to prevent any other damage from occurring. The rest of the components inside the tablet are very small and fragile so the risk of accidental damage is extremely likely if not done correctly.

Charging Issues
Most commonly used for entertainment purposes, Android tablets rely heavily on their batteries, the longer the usage a user can get out of them between charges, the better. Over time, as with any rechargeable device, the amount of life you can get out of a battery will diminish. After each battery cycle (every time the battery is charged and discharged) the total amount of power the battery can hold is slightly less than before.
Battery degradation is normal for any device that can get recharged, no matter what the total capacity of it is and that is why you’ll find yourself having to reconnect to a charger more and more frequently as they get older. Batteries in Android tablets are certainly no exception and there are so many manufacturers and variations that the steps to replacing them can be vastly different from one to the next. That being said, the troubleshooting steps to determine if the battery is the issue are pretty uniform across the board. The replacement of the charging cable is almost always the first step in trying to figure out why an Android tablet is no longer charging the way it should be. If, after the cable has been replaced, the tablet is still not charging the way it should, the A/C adapter should be replaced with one that is known to be working properly. Some tablets have a much higher capacity battery than that of a regular cell phone so using the A/C adapter for a phone may charge the tablet much slower than expected and should not be mistaken for a failing adapter. If possible, always replace the charger with the same model and style as the original one your Android tablet shipped with.
If replacing the cable and adapter have not affected the charging experience on your Android tablet, the charging port should be inspected next. Dust, dirt, and other small objects and debris can find themselves inside the port for one reason or another and have a lot to do with why your tablet will not charge properly. After a physical inspection, the removal of any foreign objects with a small needle or safety pin is advisable, provided special care is made around the pins inside the port that the charger makes contact with. These pins are very delicate and can be damaged very easily if too much pressure is applied to them. Once enough of the debris is cleared, a can of compressed air is recommended to blow it and anything else out that may be caught in there. No change to the charging performance on the Android tablet after the port is clear could indicate a port that has failed or been damaged internally.
A damaged charging port is most easily diagnosed by a properly trained technician just like the replacement of it if it is determined to be damaged. The disassembly and removal of the port as well as the reinstallation of a new one is a very precise and sensitive task. The technicians at Computers Plus Repair Center are equipped with the tools and experience necessary to make a charging port replacement a success once it is determined to be the problem.
Much like the charging port, the battery inside an Android tablet can be equally difficult to remove and replace. The disassembly of many tablets requires special tools and techniques not commonly found in a typical toolbox. When it is determined that a battery has failed in an Android tablet, replacing it is the only option for getting it to work properly again. Adequate testing after the replacement is required to ensure that it will last for quite some time. Computers Plus Repair Center uses only the highest quality replacement parts for every repair to ensure that each customer is as satisfied with their investment as possible. Each battery that is replaced is thoroughly tested before leaving the shop and does come with a 90-day warranty to give our customers the peace of mind that they will not have to worry about charging issues for a long time to come.
Software Issues
Google (the Android operating system developer) has a stellar track record when it comes to solid software in their tablets but on occasion, issues can present themselves that cannot be fixed by just simply turning it off and back on again. With the almost constant barrage of updates sent out by Google for all supported Android tablets to address security and bug issues, some of them are bound to install incorrectly or end up corrupting the system. Luckily, some steps can be taken to get your Android back up and running.
The Android operating system is owned by Google; reference to an Android tablet is simply that, a tablet running that operating system. New versions of the operating system developed by Google are sent out to the various manufacturers and service providers before being distributed to all the different versions of Android tablets but because of all the different hands that go into the process, software issues are almost inevitable.
Most of the newer Android tablets on the market are built with some level of water resistance so some software issues can be harder to tackle than others. Sometimes, to get an Android tablet out of a boot loop or fix one that has frozen and will not respond, disconnect and reconnect the battery. For a simple task on any other tablet, the various manufacturers develop and build their devices so that the tablet has to be disassembled to do it and should only be attempted by a properly trained technician.
At Computers Plus Repair Center, issues of all types when it comes to Android tablets, no matter the model or manufacturer, is a routine orders. Our shop has been around since before the inception of the first Android tablet so a thorough and complete understanding of the devices is held by the technicians at our shop.
